Analyzing and rendering millions of points on a map was a real technical challenge in CARTO, and there were several initiatives to evolve our tech stack to achieve it. We suffered night election days or viral stories in newspapers, without finding the right way to power them without some issues.
It was a point in the history when ClickHouse appeared, and showed us all the power to become the standard in OLAP databases, with capabilities to be used in different environments, but it did not end up being accepted as the next product bet.
There will be time to talk about how 5 birds got together to found Standard Deviation (stddev.co), but what we are looking for is what we always say to people: companies with a lot of data where high concurrency on requests and high ingestion on the way in are both true at the same time, who should still be able to answer any question without pretending one of those two is someone else's problem.
